Bakelite shop counter

Sold

A rare high quality 1930s Art Deco shop counter fitted with eighteen Bakelite display drawers in a brass framed vitrine. It has oak veneer panelled sides and front with black painted Art Deco stepped feet mounted on ball castors – so it can be moved with absolute ease. The maker and shopfitters nameplate ‘Courtney Pope Ltd of London N15’ is secured to the inside front of the cabinet, and each Bakelite drawer is beautifully monogrammed with the initials CP in a striking 1930s modernist font. See image. Its Bakelite drawers make it almost unique, and it is very rare to find such a counter and its beautiful drawers in such remarkably good condition.
