Edwardian Grand Tour Hatbox
A very impressive Edwardian ply hat box with original luggage stickers and leather strap. The stickers document the owner's grand tours of Italy and Egypt, from the Grand Hotel in Bologna to the Albergo Nazionale of Rome; and then in Egypt - the Hotel Cecil Alexandria, and the Luxor Winter Palace, to the Cataract Hotel of Assouan. There's also an excursion to Singapore with stay at the Raffles Hotel.
This is a quality, first-class piece of luggage of its day; one can but wonder what travels it has seen - let alone the elegant sun hats it has carried. Its days of travel may be over, yet now it's perfect for storage, and could also make a great low level side-table. Its incredible electric cobalt blue interior is the nearest match you'll ever get to an Yves Klein blue - see image.
