A series of handprinted Victorian book plate illustrations depicting bird's eggs. Each is delicately drawn and finished in chalky egg-shell pastels.

Condition: some of the plates have some very slight discolouration to their paper, yet this adds to their character and appeal. 

Edwardian enamel mould

A particularly fine and pleasingly shaped white enamel jelly mould from the days when grand dining required much that was savoury or sweet to be set in aspic.

Condition: good with some small historical chips to the enamel, yet this adds to its charm and mirrors over 100 years of use.

J.Sainsbury's potted meats pot

A 1920s Sainsbury's ironstone pot branded "J Sainsbury's Potted Meats Superior Home Made". Usually cream in colour, this pot has become beautifully discoloured to an elephant grey with a fine web of black crazing. Sainsbury's was established 1869, when John James Sainsbury and his wife Mary Ann opened a shop at 173 Drury Lane in Holborn, London. By the mid 1880s the food store was making their own foods and own-brand products, such as potted meat which was dispensed in ironstone jars, such as this one.
