Mid-Century Danish Skyline Dyrlund Desk

Sold

An important 1960s executive desk designed by Dyrlund Smith, manufactured in-house by Dyrlund of Denmark. This expansive skyline desk was recently removed from a London private office where it had remained since it was first bought, and is therefore in immaculate condition. It as two sets of suspended banks of drawers, three drawers in each, that float between side panels of polished rosewood. There are three slim drawers located directly below the desk top, and one of these is fitted with organisers for pens and paper-clips. The vast rosewood top is covered with a rectangle of thick plate-glass (not pictured) for added protection when in use. It has been cleverly designed so that it can be dismantled for transportation and installation. This desk is stunning, and has to be seen in order to understand it’s truly dynamic proportion and quality. It can be viewed in our store in Hastings.

History

Founded in 1960, Dyrlund prided themselves in delivering only the finest quality furniture for high-end homes & executive offices.  Dyrlund's clientele were - and still are - found worldwide and include many Heads of State and titled people, such as Mikhail Gorbachev.  Dyrlund's production concentrated on two main areas: home furniture and executive office furniture - each piece steadfastly following their ethos of practicality, solid construction, detailing to perfection, and classic design. Because of the special care taken with the finish, all pieces grow more beautiful with time, becoming, as Dyrlund boasts, "the antiques of tomorrow." To which this stunning 1960s desk stands testament.

Please note the desk pictured is not the exact one we are selling, although it is exactly the same model. We were lucky to buy two, and the one pictured is now sold. The one pictured has a filing drawer on its righthand side, whereas the one we are offering has a bank of three drawers in its place, matching the bank on the lefthand side. The colour of the rosewood is also slightly different, as the one pictured has been faded by sunlight - yet the one we are offering is richer, and truer in colour to when the desk was first made. We always recommend you visit our shop to view items of furniture before purchasing.
