Woven from rattan, the tendrils of a climbing palm, our traditional carpet beater has not changed in design for over a century; and no need, for it does the job perfectly.  It can be put to use not only on small carpets and rugs, but also on clothes, cushions, and bedding.  Taking your rugs outside to hand-beat out the dirt and dust is more effective than simply vacuuming and allows them a good airing - and you, a little gentle arm work-out.
