Antique Apprentice Table Top Drawers
Sold
Our charming early nineteenth century little set of tabletop drawers has arched feet, an attractive apron front, and its original stained finish. It holds three full-width drawers and two narrow drawers, each retaining its original turned wooden knobs. Most likely it was made as a cabinet maker's travelling piece, and is perfect for the storage of useful bits and bobs or small valuable items such as jewellery.
History
Miniature furniture was made by apprentices, to showcase their cabinetry skills; and it was also used by travelling salesman, as scaled-down sample pieces of the types of furniture and finish that could be applied back in the workshop. This mini chest of drawers could have served such a purpose.
