VINTAGE

Ironstone Foot Bath

Sold

A stunning Victorian Spode oval-shaped foot bath with roll-top rim, raised banding, and loop handles. The underside is stamped "Spode". It has a small bit of damage to its rim, yet we can forgive it, as these foot baths are becoming increasingly difficult to source, and rarely are they without wear and tear - for they were used, as foot baths.

Plain, unadorned ironstone creamware with its clean-lines and simple forms were part of the everyday 19th century home. Its purity and functionality is as appealing today as it was then.

Year of manufacture: c.1880

Origin: England

Material: Ceramic ironstone

Length handle to handle 49cm  Width 32cm  Height 20.5cm

Condition: there are two chips located on the upper rim (see image), and this is reflected in the price. The glaze has a few defects, yet nothing untoward, and these merely reflect its age and add character.

What do we mean by vintage ironstone and creamware?
