A collection of two handsome antique bread knives and a rare Victorian treen "Spare Not" bread board. Breadboards with epigrams such as "Spare Not" are getting increasingly difficult to find. We are selling these individually, so please make your choices in the box below.
A) A Victorian bread knife with carved wheat sheaf decorated sycamore wood handle and Stirling silver mount; the carbon steel blade engraved "Bread Knife / V R / George Butler & Co Sheffield". Length 35.5cm £95 SOLD
B) A 1920s bread knife with "The Bread Saw / Cuts new bread / Made in Sheffield" engraved on its wavy-edged carbon steel blade. Length 34cm £58
C) A 19th century Victorian scrubbed beechwood breadboard hand carved with the epigram "Spare Not". Width 29cm £195
Country of origin: UK
Condition: all very good. Each knife has seen well over a hundred years of use and has a wonderful time and hand-worn patina, both to the handle and blade. The breadboard is in great condition and has a wonderful patina born from over 130 years of use.
