An extremely rare nineteenth century life-size anatomical figure displaying muscular and primary vascular forms of the human body. The anatomic form is female, has its original paint, and is mounted on a contemporary black painted wooden plinth. Only one section of the organs remain, the bowel, and this is removable. The beauty of this model is the detail given to the musculature anatomy modelled so exquisitely down the back and the thigh and calf of the leg. Each muscle is delicately hand-painted and bears various numbers in fine script. The spine is depicted stylised, with illustrative embellishments like that found on a Victorian piece of cabinetry. This magnificent anatomical figure is a stunning example of Victorian human physiology - and has to be seen to be believed. Condition: there are several repairs to the legs and feet - see images; yet for an anatomical figure of this age and size, once used to school medical students on a daily basis, this is to be expected.  Its repairs are part of its history and add character to its sculptural form.
