Edwardian Pub Jug

£85.00

A wonderful George V pub jug in a stunning azure blue glaze; and increasingly difficult to find these days. Made by Pountney & Co. Ltd. of Bristol, this rare Edwardian mocha ware pub jug was once common in late nineteenth century/early twentieth century pubs. It is glazed in an intense sky blue with an ironstone-white handle and interior.

Provenance

This particular jug has come from the estate of the recently deceased Julia Lane, who was once married to the artist Howard Hodgkin. Please note condition report.

Country of origin: UK

Year of manufacture: c.1910

Material: ceramic

Diameter  10cm  Height 12cm  Width handle to spout 14cm

Condition: manufactured for everyday use, meant imperfections in the glaze were the norm; and this one has a small hairline about 4cm long that runs down from its top edge near the handle - see last image - which is reflected in the price.
