Bricklayer's  Trowel

A steel trowel with pine handle with maker's name "Lawson & Meaton cast steel" stamped into the steel. A wonderful object in its own right, and it would look great on a desk used as a paper weight.

Steel Set Square

A 12" steel set square with maker's name forged in the steel "Rabone Chesterman". A beautiful object and a precision piece of engineering, and built to last, which - if not using it for its original purpose - could now be used as a decorative object propped on a shelf.

History

Founded in 1784, the John Rabone & Sons works had its origins in Birmingham's jewellery quarter, and was a rule, instrument and tool makers, continuing as a family business until 1963. The company then merged with James Chesterman & Co, toolmakers of Sheffield, and the name was changed to Rabone Chesterman.
