Large Kleen Kitchen Ware Flour Jar

A large handsome 1930s ceramic Kleen Kitchen Ware 4 pint food canister with its original lid by Sadler. The base is stamped "Kleen Kitchen Ware Sadler 4 PINT", and it is banded with green stripes to its body and lid, along with good strong "FLOUR" black typography to its front.

History

Sadler was primarily a specialist manufacturer of everyday Brown Betty teapots and utility jugs and kitchenware - under the 'Kleen' brand, as shown here. Yet it also produced vases and gift wares, along with crockery for the catering and hotel trade. James Sadler started his pottery manufacturing business in 1882 as Sadler & Co in Burslem, Stoke on Trent, UK.  After a brief move south to Devon in 1912, the Sadler works returned north to Burslem in 1915 where it remained until its closure in 2000.
